KalWin Engineering is a spin-off of the group „Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics“ of the Ruhr-University Bochum. Through our many years of scientific and teaching activities in the group, we have built up a deep technical know-how in fluid mechanics and numerics and experience in the field of experimental and numerical simulation of turbulent wind flows in the built environment.
Our specialty is the computer-based modeling of near-surface wind flow for applications in civil and environmental engineering using CFD methods, also known as Computational Wind Engineering.
Dr.-Ing. Cornelia Kalender
CEO and Partner

„Since 2008, I have been actively working with numerical flow models in wind engineering in research and teaching at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. In my doctorate (completed in 2015), I worked in particular on the synergetic combination of physical wind tunnel experiments and numerical models. The focus was on quality assurance and validation of numerical simulation results for near-ground wind flows.“
Dr. Kalender is a registered member of the Chamber of Civil Engineers of North Rhine-Westphalia, was between Oct 2021 and Oct 2025 President of the Windtechnologische Gesellschaft (WTG) e.V. (Association of German Wind Engineers) and is since Oct 2023 Secretary General of the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) .
Dr.-Ing. Ulf Winkelmann
CEO and Partner

„CFD simulations in wind engineering and building aerodynamics have interested me since 2012. During my work at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, I worked in depth on the numerical modelling of vortex-excited oscillations of cylinders flowing around them in my PhD (completed in 2022). Here, different methods of turbulence modelling as well as different approaches for moving grids were a topic.“
